It's been a good run for this crime-fighting police dog, but the time has come to say goodbye.

The Delta County Sheriff's Office is reporting the passing of their beloved K9 Oxx just a few months shy of his 11th birthday. Oxx, a Belgian Malinois,  retired from active duty on September 19th, following a 9-year career in Montrose and Delta. He was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

K9 Oxx was an award winner police dog. He was an active member of the Colorado Police Canine Association & the National Police Canine Association during his entire career. In 2013 K9 Oxx was awarded the Colorado Police Canine Association Patrol Case of the Year. In 2016, K9 Oxx earned the Colorado Police Canine Association Detector Case of the year. In 2015 K9 Oxx was awarded the National Police Canine Patrol Case of the Quarter.

A law enforcement procession was held Tuesday morning in Delta to honor and pay respects to Oxx for his years of service to the community.

I know it's a sad time for the Delta County Sheriff's Office and for Oxx's partner Sergeant Keith Sanders.  It's like losing a friend or a member of your family. We send along our condolences along with our thanks and kudos to Oxx for his years of courageously and faithfully fighting crime in western Colorado.
