We all need to be thinking about the firefighters who are protecting us this weekend as we have the largest wildfire in the country burning 18 miles north of Grand Junction right now the Pine Gulch Fire. But we also have another fire to worry about as the Grizzly Creek Fire has doubled in the past 24 hours.

The Grizzly Creek Fire is located on the White River National Forest in Glenwood Canyon. On Thursday, August 13th we got the news that the fire had burned over 6,251 acres but this morning it had grown to over 14,663 acres.

There are also new mandatory evacuations in place for the following areas in Eagle County:

  • Buck Point Drive
  • Coffee Pot Road
  • Sweetwater Road

The Gypsum Recreation Center located on Valley Road is open to evacuees who are needing assistance. Anyone with livestock in the area that is needing assistance can call 970-471-2635.

There are two pre-evacuation orders for residents in the Two Rivers Village and Dotsero Home Park. For information on preparing to evacuate there is lots of great information if you click here.

If you can avoid the area this weekend that would be appreciated by all fire crews trying to battle this blaze. This fire is unpredictable and they need the public to stay away so they can work quickly to try and contain this huge blaze. The weather in not going to help this weekend so please keep these brave men and women in your thoughts.
