Being homeless at Christmas is a sad situation for Grand Junction pets that need a forever home for the new year.

Don't Give Pets As Gifts

Let me state right off the bat, I am not advocating giving pets as gifts this holiday season unless it's for your son or daughter. Giving a pet to friends or extended family members is a bad idea no matter how well-intentioned the thought might be. I would like to believe most people realize that, and I don't think I need to list all the reasons why it isn't a good idea.

Some Great Dogs and Cats Are Available Right Now

Right now, the Roice-Hurst Humane Society has many dogs and cats that are available for adoption. The gallery below highlights the dogs that are currently available and if you aren't careful, you're going to fall madly in love with at least one of them. In all honesty, I have to tell you, if I was ready for another dog, I would seriously be considering adopting at least one - and maybe two.

Adoption fees at Roice-Hurst range from $75 to $225, which helps to offset the cost of evaluation, housing, feeding, and medical care. There is something very special about rescuing a pet from the shelter and giving it a brand new home.
