Colorado's variety of different species of trout is outstanding and fun to fish.  From brookies to cutties, these are Grand Junction's favorite kinds of trout.

One of the many things I love about living in Colorado is all of the different species of fish we get to fish for. I've never done as much trout fishing as I have here and we've got a variety of species to fish from.

We have all kinds of trout around Grand Junction including:

  • Rainbow trout
  • Cutthroat trout
  • Brown trout
  • Brook trout
  • Lake trout
  • Tiger trout

After asking you on our Facebook, these are Grand Junction favorite kinds of trout:

Grand Junction's first favorite kind of trout is the cutthroat trout. These are my favorite species of trout and just absolutely gorgeous animals. They come in all different colors and are a native Colorado fish. We have three different kinds of cutties here in Colorado -- Rio Grande, Colorado River and greenback cutthroat trout.

Brook trout were brought to Colorado in the 1800s and are one of Grand Junction's favorite kinds of trout. They're usually green or brown on most of their body with a reddish colored belly.

Rainbow trout are the species of trout I've seen the most around Grand Junction. Lots of places are stocked with rainbow trout. According to CPW, these fish introduced in Colorado in the 1800s and are all over the place in Colorado.

Grand Junction's other favorite kinds of trout include 'fried' and 'big ones.'
