The website PureWow put together a list of the "15 Most Beautiful Places in Colorado," and Mesa County was part of the lineup. As a matter of fact, Western Colorado had a strong showing on the list.

Mesa County came in at #14 with a park that many Western Colorado residents consider their pride and joy.

And The Nominees Are...

Coming in at number 14 on a list of most beautiful places in Colorado isn't bad, and is certainly preferable to the alternative. Imagine being named "One of Colorado's Biggest Armpits."

Mesa County is in good company. Check out some of the other nominees:

Which Mesa County Attraction Received the Recognition?

Mesa County came in at number 14 on the list with... the James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park. According to PureWow:

Perched along the Colorado River in Mesa County near Grand Junction, James M. Robb – Colorado River State Park has been wooing tourists with its waterfront charms since 1994. Yes, it’s one of the newer spots on our list but that certainly doesn’t have any bearing on its beauty. This 890-acre bucket-list destination is divided into five sections, all with river access. There are miles of hiking and biking trails as well as swimmable beaches, lakes for fishing and boating, picnic areas, well-maintained campsites and endless opportunities for wildlife viewing.

I would agree with that, every word.

Lots O' Park

Of course, there's a whole bunch of James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park to love and enjoy, including:

  • Island Acres
  • Corn Lake
  • Colorado River Wildlife Area
  • Connected Lakes
  • Fruita

Personally, I'm partial to the Connected Lakes portion. It's nearby and easily accessible. Oddly, it's not at all uncommon to walk the two-mile section of the trail without encountering another human being.

Don't We Have a Holiday Weekend Coming Up?

As a matter of fact, we do. The 4th of July weekend is almost here, and with any luck, you'll have a little time off. Why drive out of town, especially with reports of gas stations running low? Stay right here in Mesa County and enjoy some of the best the state has to offer.
