I'm constantly pressuring my artistic friends to pursue this opportunity. I don't know anyone who wouldn't appreciate an opportunity to focus more on their art while getting paid to do it. If nothing else, this represents a chance to get your work in front of the public, including your peers.

Here's What You Have to Bring to the Table

Right now, Mesa County Public Libraries are accepting applications for the 2022 slot. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Reside in Mesa County
  • Must have a valid Mesa County Library card
  • Willing to undergo a background check

Artists Can Come From Several Different Media

Applicants for this position can be at any stage of their career. Candidates can come from any of the following media:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • fiber arts
  • sculpture
  • photography
  • video
  • music
  • fiction and non-fiction writing
  • poetry

If your background is in mediums besides these, you are still encouraged to apply.

What's In It For You?

The candidate chosen for one of the 2022 Artist in Residence positions will have access to the dedicated space at the 970West Studio. You'll have the opportunity to present art programs to the community. To top it off, the selected candidate will receive a $500 stipend.

According to the Mesa County Libraries official webpage, the program will accept two artists in 2022 for terms lasting approximately 14 weeks each. The deadline to submit your application online is 8 p.m. on January 24, 2022.
