A profound reminder that is absolutely true is that every one of your favorite bands was once a local band.

Sometimes we're introduced to a band that's based locally because we have a friend in the band, or maybe we saw them live at a local venue opening up for a bigger band, or perhaps the band sat in our CD player for years before realizing that they were from Colorado.

In any case, everyone has to start somewhere, and the amount of locally-based bands that hit the big time is typically pretty slim. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, time, and energy, and even then it doesn't always work out.

However, there are actually quite a few bands that started in Colorado and did end up getting a considerable amount of fame. Sure, the majority of the bigger bands we hear on the radio come from bigger cities like Los Angeles or New York, but every now and then a Colorado band will make it to the big time.

Curious, I posted a question on Facebook asking Western Colorado residents who their all-time favorite rock band from Colorado is, and this is what they said.

Many of the bands listed as favorites by Western Colorado residents fall into the category of local bands that hit it big. Some of these bands include Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Firefall, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Nighsweats, and the Flobots.

However, a number of what are probably still considered to be "local bands" also made the list, making for a wide variety of acts.
