Two Hour Destinations: Cool Down From Grand Junctions Heat
Grand Junction during summer feels like you're living in a convection oven. I'm here to tell you that there is hope! Here are my top places you can cool down within two hours of Grand Junction.
The first on this list we are gonna stay local. I'm talking about getting your swimming trunks getting in your vehicle and heading on down to Highline Lake. It isn't too far away and you can spend hours there.
Now we are going to leave the local area behind, and head over to Rifle Falls. This area offers nice hiking with three gorgeous waterfalls cooling things down. I have been going here for years and absolutely love it. I would also suggest bringing your cameras, this is a perfect place to take pictures.
The town of Ouray is next up on the list. Although this one is right on the edge of two hours away, I guarantee the drive alone is worth it. The scenery is breathtaking, and when you get up there it feels like the temperature is 20-degrees cooler than the rest of Colorado. If you are feeling the need for more while your up there, take a little bit more of a stroll up Red Mountain Pass. You will not be disappointed.
Time to hop in the car and head west to an awesome little town called Minturn. This quiet little town has amazing views and killer trails to explore. If you want to do something else go have a picnic at Minturn's new amphitheater. If that doesn't suit your fancy go fishing or rafting on the Eagle River. If you're feeling hungry head on over to one of the oldest places in Minturn, The Minturn Saloon.
The final destination on our list will be The Blue Mesa Reservoir. The Blue Mesa has so much fun packed into this place you won't know what to do with yourself. Did I also mention it is also the largest body of water in all of Colorado? Feel free to camp to go fishing while your there, and if that doesn't do it for you. Feel the wind in your hair while riding your bike on one of the many trails they have to offer.
Now is the time to have fun and stay cool.
