CMU Baseball Mavericks Keep on Winning
The Colorado Mesa Mavericks continue their winning ways, taking three of four from Regis over the weekend.
Senior Austin Wallingford continued his hot hitting, blasting three home runs, and driving in 9 runs. Meanwhile, freshman Zach McLeod collected 10 hits over the weekend to lead a Maverick offensive attack that exploded for 59 hits and 43 runs.
The Mavericks took game one of the series with pitcher Tyler Ehlers getting the win, improving to 5-0 on the season. Ehlers went 5.2 innings, allowing 6 runs (3 unearned) on 9 hits, while striking out four.
In game two of the series, the Mavericks broke the game open with a three-run 6th inning, and a four-run 7th, and won 11-6. Starting pitcher Ryan Reno improved to 9-1, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits and striking out 4 in 5.2 innings.
The Mavericks lost game three 7-5, with the Rangers scoring three runs in the 5th, and one run in the 6th. Freshman starter Nick Cardinale took the loss, dropping to 4-2 on the season. Cardinale when 4.2 giving up 6 runs (3 unearned) on eight hits, with three strikeouts and three walks.
The Mavs bounced back in the series finale, winning 14-9 behind Matt Allen, who gave up five runs on 10 hits to improve to 4-0 on the season. Colorado Mesa erupted for seven runs in the 2nd inning to fuel the win.
The Mavericks are now 33-5 on the season, 25-3 in the RMAC. Meanwhile, second-place CSU Pueblo lost twice over the weekend to Colorado Mines, to drop to 20-6 in conference play. The conference winner will host the RMAC tournament next month.
Next up for the Mavs is Colorado Christian. The Mavericks will play a pair of doubleheaders Friday and Saturday in Lakewood.
