Two Grand Junction women were among the concert crowd Sunday night in Las Vegas during the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Chelsea Lorimor and Jaime Serrano Zarlengo are best friends, both married with kids, but needed some "mom" time and they love going to concerts. So, it was a no-brainer to head to Las Vegas to see one of the biggest concerts of the year that included superstar and recent Country Jam headliner Jason Aldean.

What they wound up seeing was something out of a true nightmare.

The pair made their way to the front of the stage, within a few feet actually. Just as Jason Aldean kicked off his set. That's when things took a turn. It began with a few "pops," then people began to realize what was happening.

Serrano stated that at first they just got down on the ground, hugging and holding one another. Then more gunshots, anywhere from 50 to 100 shots fired. It would stop and then start up again.

WARNING: Disturbing Video Footage

Finally, the two decided to try and get out of there. They started running; they saw many people who were down and injured, especially one in particular. Zarlengo recalled that while they were running she spotted one woman on the ground covered in blood and not moving. Her first thought was to stop and help but realized if she does, she very well could become a stand still target. They decided to keep running.

It's a choice I hope none of us ever have to make.

They did manage to escape safely, but with an experience and memories that will not soon disappear.

The last report was the 59 people were confirmed dead with 527 injured. Last night Las Vegas went dark on the strip in memory of the victims.
