A truck hauling sawdust failed to negotiate the Diverging Diamond Interchange off of I-70 and ended up overturning and scattering sawdust on the road and in the median.

UPDATE: The Grand Junction Police Department reports the truck and trailer were removed from the accident scene and the sawdust was cleaned up allowing the closed portion of the interchange to reopen just before 5 p.m. The exact cause of the accident is till under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: The accident snarled traffic at Exit 26, (I-70 and Highway 6&50), one of the busiest interchanges in Grand Junction. Officials are asking motorists to avoid the interchange and take alternate routes to avoid further congestion.

The Grand Junction Police and Fire Departments along with the Colorado Department of Transportation are on the scene working to get the overturned truck and trailer off of the interchange and clean up the mess from the spilled sawdust.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the crash, but agencies on the scene estimate the removal of the truck and clean up of the sawdust will take several hours to complete.
