While everyone is being asked to practice social distancing and stay in their own homes as much as possible during this COVID-19 pandemic, the Grand Junction Parks department thought this would be the ideal time to replace the track at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction.

According to KKCO 11 News, the track will be closed to everyone beginning this Monday, April 20th and will remain closed until mid to late May while the construction team lays down the new surface. The track currently in place was installed in 2002 and over the years has shown signs of wear and tear, which is why the improvement is needed.

Normally the track at Stocker Stadium is packed as activities with both District 51 and CMU athletes as it hosts around 90 events per year for the schools. But due to the Coronavirus the track is virtually empty. If you are looking for a track to get some exercise during this construction time you're advised to use the track at Grand Junction High School.

When the track is reopened next month it will go back to it's normal usage time, being open to the public Monday through Friday. The new surface is expected to last between 12 to 15 years and will cost around $340,000 in total to replace.

We will be sure to let you know as soon as the project is completed to you can enjoy the new track available for everyone to use in Grand Junction.
