You may or may not have noticed a shortage of Sriracha in local grocery stores over the past few weeks. Depending on if you actually like the hot sauce condiment or not will dictate whether you notice the shortage or not but for me, it is and has been a staple in our house for years and we definitely notice the lack of bottles available in local grocery stores lately.

According to a statement from the company, it's attributed to a chili shortage due to "spiraling events including unexpected crop failures from the spring chili harvest."

“Currently, due to weather conditions affecting the quality of chili peppers, we now face a more severe shortage of chili,” read the statement. “Unfortunately, this is out of our control and without this essential ingredient, we are unable to produce any of our products.”

Huy Fong Inc apparently warned customers earlier in the year about an oncoming shortage due to lack of chili peppers and not the time has come as the company said that all orders submitted after April 19th  would be fulfilled after Labor Day.

So as for this summer, Sriracha will be a little harder to come by.

“Unfortunately, this is out of our control and without this essential ingredient we are unable to produce any of our products,” the company said.

So if you like it spicy, you may have to roll with some other options when it comes to hot sauce. I recommend Frank's Hot Sauce or the chili garlic sauce, it's kind of like a paste.

However, after further review, it has come to my attention that THAT stuff is also made by Huy Fong Inc, the same company that makes Sriracha so I haven't heard whether there's going to be a shortage of that or not. Hopefully not because it's so good and I strongly suggest it.

It's the bottle on the far right with the green lid. (The one with the gold label next to it is pretty good too)
