As part of National Police Week, the Grand Junction Police Department invites residents to put a blue bulb in your front porch light.

The week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15, continuing annually the proclamation signed by President John F. Kennedy in 1962.

Over the years, people have placed a blue light in front their home as a way of showing respect to those who have died in the line of duty.

This year, Grand Junction residents can get a free blue light bulb at Cabela's in Mesa Mall. The blue bulbs will be distributed from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday (May 12) while supplies last.

Many people turn on the light every night during National Police Week, to show both respects to the fallen and support of those Police Officers who have or are still working to keep Grand Junction and surrounding areas safe.
