Riverside Educational Center Welcomes Spring With Annual Golf Fundraiser
Spring is here, and the Riverside Educational Center in Grand Junction marks the occasion with the 12th annual Jolly Construction Golf Tournament. The event is a fundraiser for Riverside.
The Riverside Educational Center has been operational in Grand Junction since 2006 under the direction of Executive Director Mary Gonzales. The center provides after-school tutoring and enrichment activities for kids K-12 who qualify academically and financially. The center's goal is to improve kids' academic performance plus promote social and emotional development in a safe environment.
Qualifications for enrollment mandate a child is participating in the free/reduced lunch program, and has two or more identified risk factors including being in a single parent household, not performing at grade level, minority, etc. The cost to parents to enroll a child is minimal, which magnifies the importance of the annual golf tournament fundraiser.
The golf tournament is held on Saturday, April 18th at Redlands Mesa Golf Course beginning at 8am. The cost is $500 per team - which includes 18 holes with a cart, lunch, and free beer on the course. Plus, there is a chance to win some great prizes including first, second, and last place, plus longest drive, closest to the hole, and a hole in one.
Speaking of last place, I'm pretty sure I've been on a last place team in this tournament more than once! I can honestly say that "losing" has never even slightly diminished our enjoyment of the event.
