Last weekend's vintage motorcycle show in downtown Palisade raised enough money to fund a scholarship to Colorado Mesa University for three years.

The 9th Annual Vintage Motorcycle days brought thousands of people to 3rd and Main in Palisade early Saturday, June 3. In addition to vintage motorcycles, participants enjoyed live music, fun for the kids, and a silent auction.

Between the auction, motorcycle registrations and T-shirt sales, the event generated enough money to fund the Robert "Bob" Grant Memorial Scholarship for a total of three years.

This scholarship is specific to students studying music at Colorado Mesa University. The award existed for a number of years but recently took a short hiatus. It will be available to students attending CMU starting this fall semester.

Why would a motorcycle show fund a music scholarship, you ask? There are two reasons:

Over the years, funds generated by this event have gone to a number of non-profits. The first organization to receive money from this event completed its mission and was retired. Another local non-profit received a cash gift from this event for a number of years. When it came time to find a new recipient for the donation, one of the board members of the Western Colorado Vintage Motorcycle Association suggested donating to a scholarship named in memory of a person born and raised in the Palisade area.

Secondly, music students at CMU, or any institution for that matter, are hit with an extra charge for their tuition. In addition to the normal fees all students must pay, music students are required to take private lessons each semester. These lesson fees vary from professor to professor. In any case, the additional fees equal several hundred dollars per semester.

The founders of the Robert "Bob" Grant Memorial Scholarship, along with his family, wish to extend their gratitude to the Western Colorado Vintage Motorcycle Association, as well as those who participated in the event.

Please take a moment to look through the gallery at the top. Like always, a number of magnificent motorcycles came out to the show. There can be no doubt you'll see a bike which suits your fancy.
