Multiple Avalanches Shut Down I-70 Through Mountains
We hope you don't need to travel I-70 through the Colorado mountains. Multiple avalanches have shut down much of the interstate.
Heavy snow overnight triggered an avalanche between Copper Mountain and Vail which trapped a tow truck driver.
CoTrip.org posted this statement on their website:
I-70 closed both directions over Vail Pass between Vail - Copper Mtn during avalanche cleanup work (All eastbound CMV must stage at Dotsero, Exit 133.) I-70 closed between Copper Mtn - Frisco & Hwy 91 closed from Copper Mtn - Leadville due to safety concerns involving gas leak in Copper Mountain. US 40 Berthoud Pass closed during avalanche mitigation work. US 6 Loveland Pass closed due to adverse conditions.
There isn't an estimated time when the interstate will be reopened, and drivers are asked to limit travel through the mountains.
