Mountaineers Beat Baylor, Only Four Top 25 Teams Left Unbeaten
The list of unbeaten teams among the AP's top-25 is down to four.
Fourth-ranked Baylor dropped from the unbeaten ranks with a 41-27 loss at West Virginia. The game was tied at 27 until Clint Trickett threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Kevin White with 11:36 remaining.
Trickett was 23 of 35 for 322 yards and three touchdowns, while White had eight catches for 132 yards and two scores.
It was a frustrating day for Bryce Petty and the 6-1 Bears, who racked up 18 penalties for a Big 12-record 215 yards. Petty was sacked four times while completing just 16 of his 36 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns.
The outcome leaves Mississippi State, Florida State, Mississippi and No. 25 Marshall as the only unbeaten teams currently in the poll.
Fifth-ranked Notre Dame also suffered its first loss. Jameis (JAYM'-his) Winston passed for 273 yards and two touchdowns as the second-ranked Seminoles knocked off the Irish 31-27. FSU running back Karlos Williams had just 25 yards on eight carries, but he also had two touchdown runs in the second half after the Irish took a 24-17 lead.
Florida State is 7-0.
Notre Dame fell to 6-1 despite Tarean Folston and Everett Golson. Folston rushed for 120 yards and Golson was 31 of 52 for 313 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
In other top-25 action:
— Third-ranked Ole Miss stayed unbeaten as Bo Wallace threw for two touchdowns and the Rebels ran for 180 yards and two scores in a 34-3 win at Tennessee. Mississippi held the Vols under 200 total yards and forced four turnovers.
— Blake Sims threw for three touchdowns and scored on a 43-yard run while leading seventh-ranked Alabama to 35 second-quarter points and a 59-0 pummeling of No. 21 Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide set a school record for points in a quarter, claimed a 45-0 lead by halftime and outgained the Aggies 602-172 for the game.
— Eighth-ranked Michigan State rolled to a 56-17 win at Indiana as Connor Cook threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns. Jeremy Langford ran for over 100 yards and three touchdowns, while Nick Hall also had a 100-yard rushing game in the Spartans' fifth straight win.
— Oregon freshman Royce Freeman ran for 169 yards and four touchdowns in leading the ninth-ranked Ducks' rushing attack in a 45-20 romp over Washington. Marcus Mariota threw for 336 yards and two touchdowns for the 6-1 Ducks.
— Nick Chubb ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns and 10th-ranked Georgia dominated on the road for the second straight week in a 45-32 win at Arkansas. Hunter Mason added 179 yards on 10 of 17 passing in the Bulldogs' fifth straight win.
— No. 12 TCU ripped 15th-ranked Oklahoma State 42-9 as Trevone Boykin threw for a career-high 410 yards with three touchdowns, two on long plays to Josh Doctson in the first quarter. Doctson had seven catches for 225 yards, a yard short of the Horned Frogs' school record even with scores of 77 and 84 yards.
— J.T. Barrett threw for three touchdowns and ran for 107 yards and two scores as 13th-ranked Ohio State crushed Rutgers 56-17. The Buckeyes have averaged 56 points during their four-game winning streak and have earned 18 straight victories against Big Ten teams.
— No. 14 Kansas State escaped with a 31-30 win over 11th-ranked Oklahoma after Michael Hunnicutt missed a 19-yard field goal with 3:53 remaining. Jake Waters passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns to help the Wildcats overcome Sterling Shepard's school record-tying 15 catches for 197 yards for the Sooners.
— D.J. Foster and Jaelen Strong each scored second-quarter touchdowns before Zane Gonzalez hit four field goals in Arizona State's 26-10 home win against No. 23 Stanford. Mike Bercovici was 23 of 33 for 245 yards and a TD for the 17th-ranked Sun Devils.
— Ameer Abdullah ran for 146 yards and had four 1-yard touchdown runs as No 19 Nebraska beat Northwestern 38-17. Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. scored on a 16-yard reception for the Cornhuskers, who outscored the Wildcats 24-0 in the second half.
— Cody Kessler set a school single-game record with seven touchdown passes, five coming in the first half of No. 22 Southern California's 56-28 victory over Colorado on Saturday. Kessler was 17 of 24 for 318 yards while also becoming the first Pac-12 quarterback to throw seven TD passes in the first three quarters of a game
— C.J. Davidson ran for a 32-yard touchdown with 9:35 to play before No. 24 Clemson stopped a Boston College drive in the final minutes of a 17-13 triumph at Boston College. Cole Stoudt completed 29 of 45 passes for 285 yards.
— No. 25 Marshall is 7-0 following a 45-13 rout of Florida International. Rakeem Cato set an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision record by throwing a touchdown pass for the 39th straight game, finishing with 214 yards and four scoring tosses.
