The Colorado Women's Hall of Fame was created in 1985 to honor the contributions of the amazing women who helped and continue to help grow and shape our beautiful state.

Every two years women are nominated for the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame, six contemporary women and four historical. And these are no ordinary women. They are nominated based on their contributions to Colorado and society in general. Susan Helms, pictured above, is one of this year's nominees. Susan, a retired Air Force Lt. General, was the first military woman in space and has the longest spacewalk as well as the first woman to serve on the International Space Station.

In past years, women such as Clara Brown, a freed slave who was the first black woman to cross the plains during the gold rush, Loretta Ford, who began the nurse practitioner movement, and Elizabeth Wright Ingraham, who, as an architect, and the granddaughter of Frank Lloyd Wright, pioneered responsible designing in architecture were inducted, and the women being inducted this year are pretty impressive in their own right.

In addition to Susan Helms, this year's inductees include Leslie Foster, Gerie Grimes, Dorothy Horrell, Fay Matsukage, and Gail Schoettler and four historical women, Mae Boettcher, Ellis Meredith, Doreen Pollock and Amache Prowers.

The Induction Gala is set for March 28 in Denver at the Denver Hilton City Center.
