Texas has found a new football coach.

People with knowledge of the situation tell The Associated Press that Louisville coach Charlie Strong has informed Cardinals athletic director Tom Jurich that he is taking over the Longhorns program. Strong was 37-15 in four years with the Cardinals, including a 3-1 record in bowl games.

He replaces Mack Brown, who led the 2005 Longhorns to the national championship but went 18-17 in the Big 12 over the last four seasons.

Texas went 8-5 this season, ending it with a 30-7 loss to Oregon in the Alamo Bowl.
