The den displayed 24/7 by Project RattleCam is considered a thing of nightmares by some, and even those individuals who aren't afraid of snakes should definitely avoid any contact with a rattlesnake, as they are very dangerous.
However, it's studies like those conducted by Project RattleCam that provide invaluable information to ensure maximum safety while maintaining a coexistence with dangerous animals.
What Kind of Venomous Snakes are Native to Colorado?
According to research from the University of Colorado, there are three types of venomous snakes native to Colorado. These have been identified as the western massasauga rattlesnake, the midget faded rattlesnake, and the prairie rattlesnake.

When and Where are You Most Likely to Encounter a Venomous Snake in Colorado?
Research also shows that Colorado's rattlesnakes are the most active during the spring and fall when the weather begins to warm up, but the summer heat hasn't quite made its annual appearance yet.
Rattlesnakes are technically active from around April through September, but are typically only found during the daytime during spring and fall months. However, summertime can prove to be a catalyst for a dangerous rattlesnake encounter if you happen to be hiking around at night.
How Deadly is a Bite from One of Colorado’s Venomous Snakes?
While rattlesnake bites can be fatal to humans, deaths from these venomous snakes are rare. For one, even if a human is bitten by a rattler, studies have shown that around 25% of these bites are "dry," meaning that the snake doesn't inject venom.
It's estimated that a terrifying 200 rattlesnake bites occur in Colorado each year, but since 2017, only two of those have proved to be fatal.
