Colorado Rockies Hire ‘Moneyball’ Mastermind Paul DePodesta to Overhaul the Team
On Friday, November 7, 2025, it was announced that the Colorado Rockies officially hired Paul DePodesta to run the team’s baseball operations.
What Led to the Colorado Rockies Hiring Paul DePodesta?
In case you haven’t been following Colorado’s Major League Baseball team lately, the Colorado Rockies had a rough season. In fact, the team was pacing to set a single-season record for losses, finishing up the 2024-2025 season with a total of 119 losses.

Because of this, the Colorado Rockies’ manager at the time, Bill Schmidt, resigned from his post on October 1, leaving the Colorado Major League Baseball team as the sole team in the league to not have a manager.
Now, after being turned away by both Matt Forman of the Cleveland Guardians and Amiel Sawdaye of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Paul DePodesta has officially been brought on to attempt to rebuild the team.
Who is the New Boss at the Colorado Rockies?
Paul DePodesta was most recently involved in a completely different sport, football, as the chief strategy officer of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, where he was employed for roughly a decade.
However, the Harvard alum is arguably most famous for his work for the MLB, and his work with the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers earned him such a reputation that his story was immortalized in the movie ‘Moneyball,’ in which he was portrayed by actor Jonah Hill. The film was based on a 2003 book of the same title by author and financial journalist Michael Lewis.
52-year-old DePodesta is originally from Alexandria, Virginia, and began his Major League Baseball career in 1996 as a development intern and advance scout for the Cleveland Indians.
DePodesta’s first order of business will be to secure a new manager for the Rockies.
