Grand Junction’s Orchard Mesa Pool Vote: What You Need to Know
Grand Junction’s pool debate is headed to the ballot box. The fate of the Orchard Mesa Pool will be a very real question for locals who will need to decide how much our pool is worth.
A proposed 0.07 % tax increase would work out to about 7 cents on every $100 in taxable purchases. Grand Junction’s 2026 community survey found 38% support raising taxes and taking on debt for the pool while 43% opposed. That’s close enough to send it to a vote.

I appreciate that the City Council decided that 38% to 43% is close enough to send the issue to the November ballot. They voted unanimously to put the pool funding question up for a vote, giving voters the final say. If this version of funding passes, the proposal says the city sales and use tax would increase from 3.39% to 3.46%. Once repayment is reached, the rate would be reduced by 0.04 points.
What Exactly Did Grand Junction City Council Approve?
The council’s decision puts the tax question before voters, but it does NOT automatically fund the project if approved. The tax increase equals about 7 cents per $100 of taxable purchases. The Business Times reports revenue would support major improvements and continued operation of Orchard Mesa Pool, with costs at roughly $10 million and potential financing at about $11.6 million.
