Colorado’s current DUI enforcement campaign in 2026 is known as The Heat Is On. Operation Winter Blitz is part of this. Saturation patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and additional officers will be on major highways and local roads, watching for impaired drivers. The blitz is part of several enforcement events planned in 2026 to reduce the number of fatal crashes and the frequency of high-risk behaviors.

The Key Goals of the Blitz

So, what are the goals? First, reduce impaired driving by increasing citations and removing dangerous drivers from the roads. Next, boost visible enforcement and remind everyone to obey traffic and safety laws. Another upside is that the local police in Mesa, Delta, and Montrose counties can increase interagency coordination during events like this.

What Residents Can Expect

Operation Winter Blitz in Mesa County was announced yesterday, giving the public notice of the increased activity. You can follow local law enforcement social feeds to find out more about where they are and what they are up to during the campaign (through January 22). You can also expect to see an increased police presence in areas where winter weather and heavy traffic volume combine to create slowdowns. Just remember, it’s a great week in Colorado to obey the speed limit and drive safely.
