Anyone driving through the Grand Junction these days probably feels like there is no escaping orange cones and barrels. Lane restrictions and detours from several unrelated projects are happening at the same time, so your usual route may look a little different this week.

Road work is affecting traffic at 25 Road and F 1/4 Road in the Four Canyons area, D 1/2 Road in the east part of town, downtown streets, and the Redlands. Here's what's happening and what drivers need to know before heading out this week.

Grand Junction's Oct. 5 traffic bulletin lists full closures and lane restrictions. Here's what you'll find at each location:

  • Crosby Avenue: Closed between W. Main St. and American Way.
  • 25 Road: Multiple Closure segments around Four Canyons.
  • F 1/4 Road: Closed to through traffic from 25 Road to Zenith Lane.
  • D 1/2 Road: Closed between 29 Road and 30 Road. Local access maintained.
  • Ute Avenue: Single-lane and shoulder closures.
  • Pitkin Avenue: Single-lane and shoulder closures.
  • 4th Street: Reduced to one lane. Colorado Ave. to Pitkin Ave.
  • 5th Street: Reduced to one lane. South Ave. to Colorado Ave.
  • Alcove Drive Closed at 23 Road: Use Vista Grande Road or Columbine Drive to reach 23 Road.

How Long Will These Closures Last?

With so many factors impacting each project’s timeline, all schedules are approximate. Crosby Avenue's current full closure is expected to continue through October 2026, while the Four Canyons Parkway Phase II project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The larger Ute and Pitkin project runs until February 2027, and the 23 Road and Broadway roundabout is anticipated to be finished in December.

Because individual traffic patterns can change as crews move through construction phases, don't assume a road will reopen simply because a project is nearing its overall completion date.

The best advice for drivers this week is to allow extra travel time, especially through downtown and around 25 Road. Follow the detours and posted signs instead of an old route you may have memorized. Pay close attention to traffic-control signs as well as crews and flaggers. COtrip.org is a great reference for real-time road conditions, closures, and travel times. Grand Junction’s weekly traffic bulletin is worth bookmarking as it is the best place for a list of current travel restrictions. Find Grand Junction’s traffic bulletin here.
