Colorado Cities See A Surge In E-bike & Scooter Travel

It seems safe to say Grand Junction made the most out of the micromobility pilot program, with e-bikes and e-scooters changing the way locals get around town. Some feel the program has shown a cleaner, quicker, and more fun way to get around.

From CMU students to tourists checking out the Riverfront Trail, electric rides are helping more people enjoy the Grand Valley.

How Mobility Got a Boost in Grand Junction

The city launched an 18-month shared micromobility program with operators Bird and Lime in May 2023. Since then, hundreds of e-scooters have made short trips easier, saving residents from needing to drive a car.

In March 2025, Grand Junction officially transitioned to an enduring permitting program designed to maintain micromobility as an option on the Western Slope. So when you see an e-scooter or an e-bike by the Riverfront Trail or downtown, you are looking at the future of getting around the valley.

Where To Rent E-bikes and Scooters in Grand Junction

• Shared scooter via Lime/Bird — Use the Lime or Bird app to unlock scooters or bikes in the city’s permitted zone. E-scooter rates here.

Do This, Not That: Micromobility Edition

KKCO reports the first year of the scooter pilot (launched in 2023) saw over 100,000 rides in 365 days, or around 275 rides per day. Most e-scooters cost $1 to start and around .40 cents per mile.
