Many people in Colorado are passionate about hot dogs. Everybody believes their favorite is the best regardless of anybody else's opinion.

An entire episode of FX's The Bear was dedicated to a character's hatred of putting ketchup on a hot dog. There is also this funny scene starring Harry Callahan.

We all have our own hot dog preferences. For the record, I do not have a problem with putting ketchup on a hot dog.

Colorado's Signature Dog

Many major cities and states have a signature hot dog. We all know Chicago style, New York style, and California style. Does Colorado have a signature hot dog?

We do. The Rockie Dog was recognized as the official hot dog of Colorado.

Here is what it is.

  • Grilled peppers
  • Onions
  • Kraut
  • Foot Long Dog

Although this has been recognized as Colorado's signature dog, it is not Colorado's favorite hot dog.

Colorado's Favorite Should Be Its Signature

New research by Google Trends analyzed data and they pinpointed every state's favorite hot dog based on search data.

They found that Colorado's favorite hot dog is the Sonoran Hot Dog. I am embarrassed to admit that I haven't had one yet, but after doing some research, this hot dog sounds way more like Colorado's style than the Rockie Dog.

The Sonoran Dog seems like it is jam-packed with flavor.

These hot dogs are traditionally bacon-wrapped and feature pinto beans, tomatoes, crema, jalapeno, and cheese.

A lot of recipes have green chile peppers. That must be the Colorado flair added to it.
