Wellington’s Community Services Center organizers hope food, music and fun make up a successful fundraising recipe in August.

Aug. 15 is the group’s Cereal Box Community Concert with Funky Business.

The event serves dual purposes, as noted by its name:

1 – Gather cereal donations for the Wellington Food Bank.

2 – Collect donations, $10 admission, for the proposed Community Services Center.

What is the Wellington Community Services Center?

Wellington, Colorado, is a growing community with a big heart. And, like many Colorado communities of all sizes, there are families and individuals who struggle to make ends meet.

Following a model much like the House of Neighborly Service in Loveland, the Community Services Center would make space for various organizations to serve from a one-stop shop. The Wellington project would also house the Wellington Food Bank.

Potential nonprofits and services include:

  • Children’s Speech and Reading Center
  • Larimer County Human Services
  • Summitstone Health Partners
  • Counseling and mental health
  • Income tax and financial assistance

The Town of Wellington has committed $10,000 toward the $2.3 million building project. The rest of the funding and operating costs will be raised through fundraisers, rental income, recurring donations and foundations.

About the Wellington Cereal Box Community Concert

When and where: Grab your lawn chairs and head out to Wellington Manor, 3922 Cleveland Ave., Wellington, to catch this fun, family-friendly concert from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 15. NOTE: This is a change of venue.

The band: Funky Business covers a wide range of genres, from classic funk and spirited soul to danceable disco and contemporary pop. As Eric Weedin, the band’s trumpeter, puts it, “Funky Business is a party in a box. The band is filled with people who love music. Sure, each of us has a preferred style or artist, but one and all, the Funky B’s, find love and passion in a great tune. We bring a rock ’n’ roll/party experience with some tight horns and some of the best vocals you’ll ever hope to hear.”

Admission: $10 donation and a box of cereal. (Kids admitted free.) No dogs allowed.

Get tickets: Buy Cereal Box Community Concert tickets in advance via Eventbrite.

Why a box of cereal? Cereal is one of the most requested items at the Wellington Food Bank.

Impact: All proceeds from the event will benefit the Community Services Center of Wellington’s Capital Campaign. This campaign aims to build a permanent home for the Wellington Food Bank and create space for various service organizations to assist those in need.
