You see them just about everywhere in Colorado: People cruising around on scooters. Yes, they can be convenient, but Denver's had enough of the injuries caused.
Denver Cracks Down on Scooter Use in the City
In May of 2025, according to FOX31, the Denver City Council unanimously voted to make new rules when it comes to riding scooters on the sidewalks of the city and how the scooters are left. The council is looking out for people's safety; will other Colorado cities join in?
The North American electric scooter market is expected to reach over $15 billion by 2029. The average cost in 2025 for one is about $300.
You probably know someone who's had an incident regarding a scooter rider. Recently, I, myself, was walking down a sidewalk of Downtown Loveland, and was nearly "ran over" by some kids riding their scooters, also on the sidewalk. You're just not expecting a scooter to come rolling up.
New Tech Will Keep Scooters Off Denver Sidewalks
According to FOX31, in 2024, Denver Health took in over 2,000 patients that were involved in a "scooter incident." I would hate to have to pay a co-pay on an emergency room visit because of some "jerk" on a scooter.

This tech idea sounds great to me: Denver will be mandating technology on scooters that disables them if they are on a sidewalk, and not on the street or bike lane. It probably has something to do with the smoothness of the sidewalk that the technology detects.

You've seen scooters just discarded "wherever;" by 2027 rules will be in place in Denver that scooters have to be parked in specific places.

Testing Before Riding a Scooter in Denver Coming
Another rule for scooter riders in Denver will be that the rider has to take a compliance test before riding for the first time. They'll probably do that when the rider gets their low-powered scooter registered; though how many riders actually do that?
