Denver Broncos Cut Popular Young Player Who Showed Early Promise
Fresh off a victory on Monday Night Football at home versus the ailing Cleveland Browns, the Broncos have kicked off their bye week by making a few roster moves.
It was early in the season that rookie QB Bo Nix was starting to establish rapport with his core of receivers. Cortland Sutton was the team's true #1 receiver, but beyond him it wasn't exactly clear who would step up to be his #2 guy.
Over the first few games of the year, a good candidate appeared to be WR Josh Reynolds, who signed as a free agent this past March with the idea he would ultimately become Bo's second receiving target.
He racked up 183 yards receiving in the first few games before being hurt in Week 5, fracturing his finger on a touchdown grab and being placed on injured reserve as a result.
He also was involved in a shooting several days later, while leaving Shotgun Willie's in Denver, though ultimately was ok from that incident.
Now as the deadline to reactivate him on the roster approaches, and Nix has established momentum with other guys who have stepped up in his place, the team has decided to release him as opposed to cutting another player to make room for him on the roster.
He'll make close to $5 million this year as he's released to waivers and will likely be claimed by another team. The good news however is the Broncos have had several guys step up in his place on their way to an 8-5 record headed into the bye week.
