Colorado’s Coney Island Weiner Stand to Add New Bar
It's one of the best-known oddities of Colorado: The 42-foot-long South Park Coney Island weiner stand, about 50 miles west of Denver in Bailey. The stand has been around since the late 1960s and is an unofficial historic landmark; it's about time you could also grab a beer.
What is the Bar That's Coming to Coney Island in Colorado?
I'm a big fan of this news that Westword dropped about a bar going in next to Coney Island; it'll be called The Boardwalk Tavern. When the stand first opened on Colfax in Denver in 1966 it was called "The Boardwalk Coney Island," so the name of the tavern fits right in.
The separate Boardwalk Tavern, where Coney Island's gift shop was (it moved,) will have beer, cocktails, wine and non-alcoholic options. They'll serve through a window like how it works for getting hot dogs at Coney Island, but are also looking at getting indoor seating for folks.
I can see people wanting to grab a dog and a beer and sit down after traveling to visit the site.

I have a friend who lives in the Bailey area, the Harris Park neighborhood to be specific. It's about 2.5 hours in the car to get to his place from Loveland; the next time that I visit, I'll have him come down to Highway 285 (he lives about a half hour off off the highway) to meet me for a dog and a beer before heading up to his place. My friend notes that he's never actually been to the famous hot dog stand, yet.
