Anyone thinking about moving to Boulder, whether for a job, for the university, or just to live your life, you should think twice about bringing one thing. Its's a thing that screams "Boulder," but it may just bring you problems.
It has to be very frustrating, as this is something that make Boulder such a great place to live; maybe that's why it's on criminals' lists.
Bike Thefts Up Significantly in Boulder, Colorado
Bikes and Boulder just seem to go together; it would be nearly impossible to imagine that city without people getting around on them. That is probably why criminals are targeting Boulder more than other cities, when it comes to thefts of bikes.
When you consider how much people are investing into their bikes, it adds to the frustrating of the bike owners when one is stolen, but then also "sweetens the pot" for those wanting to steal those bikes.

According to the Denver Gazette, nearly 650 bikes were stolen in 2023, worth a total of about $1.2 million. That seems like a crazy amount of money, but 2024's numbers will outpace 2023 by about 130 more bikes.
Bikes Are Expensive Which Makes Them Prone to Being Stolen in Colorado
In 2023, the average cost of one of the stolen bikes was about $1,900; for 2024, the average cost has been about $2,200. Being someone who isn't a bike enthusiast, that seems like an incredible amount of money for a bike.
Only about 10% of the stolen bikes get back to their owners.
