I was finally able to check something pretty big off my Colorado bucket list.

It doesn't matter if you've lived in Colorado your entire life or if you've only been here for a couple of years, we all know about Red Rocks.

What Makes Red Rocks Amphitheatre So Special?

I moved here in the spring, and the first thing people said to me when I shared the news of my leaving the Midwest was that I'd be not too far from the famous venue.

Located in Morrison, just outside of Denver, Red Rocks has become a must-visit for any hardcore music fan.

Of course this spot plays host to some spectacular musical events, but you can also do yoga out there or check out a film.

A Personal Connection: From High School Band to Red Rocks Stage

The reason I made the trip out to Red Rocks Amphitheatre was to check out Mumford & Sons on Tuesday, July 22nd. I had no intention of going to the show until a couple of days before.

A girl I went to high school with is currently on tour with the band! Her name is Laura and she's an incredibly talented trumpet player. We were both in our school's marching band.

So, when I found out she would be performing at Red Rocks, I reached out to her. My intention was to try and catch up over coffee or a drink while she was in the area.

Unfortunately, our schedules couldn't really line up. To make up for this, she offered to get me a pair of tickets to the show. I know! That's incredibly generous!

I cannot stress this enough! I just wanted to catch up, not get into the concert. It had been years since we last saw each other and I wanted to see what she was up to.

My First-Ever Red Rocks Concert Experience

After a bit of debating with myself on it, I decided to just head out to Morrison after work. I wanted to watch her perform with this popular group and the fact that her show was at Red Rocks was the cherry on top.

Tips I Got Before Heading to Red Rocks

I asked friends and co-workers for advice on attending a show there.

One person said to get to the venue early so I could get decent parking.

Another person told me to wear decent walking shoes because of all of the walking I'd have to do.

And other people kept reminding me that the air would be thin, so I should hydrate before.

I took all of this advice and made it to Red Rocks at around 5:45 PM, less than an hour before doors opened. My trek into the amphitheater wasn't too bad. I definitely thought people were exaggerating about all of the hiking.

By the time I got through security and to my seat I was a bit winded.

Eyes wide, I took in the entirety of the grounds as I caught my breath.

The only thoughts in my head were, "This is nuts! How is this a real place?"

Madison Cunningham and Mumford & Sons Rocked the Stage

After that, the night turned into an experience I'll never forget.

I met up with my friend Laura during the opener, Madison Cunningham. This singer gave me full body chills when she took to the stage.

And don't even get me started on Mumford & Sons! They absolutely killed it!

As soon as I got home from the show, I started looking up other artists coming to Red Rocks this summer. I'm definitely going to have to find my way back to Morrison very soon.
