I'm the type of person who takes pride in my yard. Not long before the COVID-19 pandemic, I spent every moment of free time renovating my front yard. Removing an old, sickly tree, tons of landscaping rock, small keystone pavers, relocating sprinklers, and all of that other fun stuff.

It took three months of back-breaking work, but it was all worth it in the end. I remember the first year after having done the renovation on the yard, and having neighbors walk by and crouch down just to touch the grass. I was proud.

Wanting to keep my yard in the best shape possible, I joined numerous lawn care groups on Facebook. After a couple of weeks, I noticed that the same topic kept getting brought up. An animal was destroying yards of fellow lawn care enthusiasts, and I began to worry.

Could this animal destroy your yard in Colorado?

This animal lives underground and searches for its food source by burrowing tunnels in search of grubs and insects. While I have seen photos of this odd-looking animal, I have never seen one in real life.

I kind of have a hard time deciding if moles are creepy or cute; either way, they can be a pest. Much like a mouse or a rat to many people. This small creature is a mammal with velvety fur, powerful front paws, and tiny eyes.

Do moles live in Colorado?

The Eastern Mole does call Colorado home. Now, before you go researching on how to best remove moles from your yard, you should know something. They only live in the eastern plains of Colorado.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, this species of mole is restricted to the eastern plains, far from the residential lawns of the Front Range. Eastern Moles live where the soil is sandy, such as floodplains, fields, lawns, cemeteries, and golf courses.

While you may not have to deal with Eastern Moles in Northern Colorado, you still might want to learn more about them and where they live in the state. You can learn more at cpw.state.co.us.
