October is less than a week in, and many are excited about getting ready for Halloween. Decorations are going up in yards across the state, on balconies, and many people are getting ready for the month ahead. Halloween movies are on television, kids are wearing their costumes around the house, and many adults have begun testing the candy to make sure it is good this year. While most would assume Halloween season is ramping up, you would have a hard time guessing that by walking into certain stores. Did Halloween already take place in Colorado, and residents forgot to be told it happened already?

Have you been into Costco recently? If the answer is yes, what holiday mood did the store put you in? The answer likely isn't Halloween, and during October shouldn't it be? This is the time of year when Halloween is the focal point, but as many stores have been doing through the years, they no longer respect the current season and instead are focusing on the next holiday and trying to beat their competitors to getting out their decor. Costco currently has rows of Christmas decorations, advent calendars, wrapping paper, and great gift ideas. While some have begun their holiday shopping, should Halloween be swept under the rug this soon, when the holiday is still weeks away from happening?

Far too many stores are moving from one holiday to another so soon that they neglect the one that is currently in season. Not everyone is ready to move on when trunk-or-treats have not started yet, pumpkin patches only recently opened, and many do not have their costumes yet or even know what they are going to be this year. While it makes sense from a business perspective to be the first to get out holiday decorations, is now the right time to go all in on Christmas? There is nothing wrong with having a mix of Christmas and Halloween. But to fully eliminate Halloween and have more Christmas seems absurd. When do you think is the right time to go all in on Christmas? Is it the week of Halloween when most things are bought? Is it the day after Halloween? Or are you traditional and believe it should be the week of or day after Thanksgiving?

Don't jump the gun and forget about Halloween, despite what some stores are trying to convince you. Enjoy the season, the candy, and dressing up, and worry about Christmas on November 1st. Do you agree or disagree with stores moving on to Christmas weeks before Halloween?
