The Greeley Police Department has arrested a teacher who allegedly assaulted a six-year-old student. The news is shocking for residents all across Colorado.

According to a press release, the teacher has been arrested and booked into the Weld County Jail for the incident that occurred in August.

The incident happened on August 30. Greeley School Resource Officers were alerted to an alleged assault by a teacher at Maplewood Elementary School.

The incident was reported to school authorities by the student’s guardian, prompting immediate action from both the school district and law enforcement.

The Greeley-Evans School District 6 Administrators and District 6 Security notified the Greeley Police Department of the situation, leading to a criminal investigation.

The teacher involved is 40-year-old Joshua David Wainscott. At first, Wainscott was placed on administrative leave by the district as the investigation was happening.

The Greeley Police Department then stepped in to conduct their own investigation.

On September 12, Wainscott was arrested by the Greeley Police Department. Wainscott was taken to the Weld County Jail. The charges he faces are 2nd Degree Assault–Strangulation, classified as a Class 4 Felony, and Child Abuse, a Class 3 Misdemeanor.

Investigation Continues in Greeley

Fox31 claims they have the affidavit of the arrest and they say that there is video evidence of the incident.

Officers said Wainscott was seen grabbing a student and picking him up with his arm around his neck and taking the student from outside to inside the school. - Morgan Whitley

According to the press release, Wainscott is still innocent until proven guilty and the Greeley Police Department is continuing its investigation. According to the Weld County Sheriff's Office, Wainscott is not in prison right now and paid a bond.
