We have a new update on the Front Range Passenger Rail Project that is coming to Colorado.

In 2023, we announced that the rail project was going to secure federal funding. This means that Colorado taxpayers would not have to pay for the entire project.

Federal funding will be used to help pay for the ambitious project that has been rumoured for a very long time.

There is a new timeline and an update on the project.

Update on Colorado Transportation Project

According to The Longmont Leader and other sources, there is now a goal year to finish the first portion of the project by 2029.

The first phase would include a rail that connects Denver and Fort Collins. The plan would also potentially involve stops in various cities in Northern Colorado.

This would be huge for Northern Colorado. As someone who drives on I-25 daily, it would be nice to sit in less traffic. There are many commuters from Northern Colorado to Denver. This would be a huge help.

The Longmont Leader noted that many of the funds would come from new fees on rental cars.

This Would Be Colorado's First Phase

In late 2023, Colorado was given half a million dollars from the federal government to begin planning the project.

In 2024, Governor Jared Polis announced that Colorado would invest $170 million annually for the project.

We are seeing the first phase becoming a reality by 2029. The Passenger Rail Project hopes to connect most of the state by a passenger rail. The future goal is to connect Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo.
