I think that one of my biggest fears is having my vehicle stolen. I have had my cars broken into numerous times as a teenager and in my twenties and it was horrible. Having things that you have worked so hard to get taken from you in a matter of moments is violating. To add insult to injury, they always broke a window for some reason. Tack that bill for replacement onto the items and it's just a kick in the pants.

Thankfully, I have never had any of my vehicles stolen, but it is always a fear in the back of my mind. Colorado has been riddled with crimes involving cars in recent years. From catalytic converter theft to outright taking the car from a parking spot, it's been an ongoing issue for quite some time.

The program by the Lakewood Police Department offers these tracking devices free to residents as an entire package. The contents of the do-it-yourself tracking kits include:

  • Apple Air Tags or Tile Trackers
  • A steering wheel club
  • Theft-deterrent stickers for the front windows
  • Instructions on setup

There is a limit of two do-it-yourself vehicle tracking kits per household and are not intended for company vehicles belonging to Colorado businesses. For more information on the do-it-yourself vehicle tracking kits offered by the Lakewood Police Department, see the Facebook post below.

Should this be offered by more police departments in the state of Colorado? Would you be interested in seeing these available at your local police department in Northern Colorado? We would love to hear from you on this matter.
