This Place In Utah Named One Of The Worst Tourist Traps

This spot in Utah has been included on a list of Top 100 tourist traps worldwide, as well as one of the most overpriced attractions in the entire world. To be fair, the spot is shared with three other states, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. 

It is the Four Corners Monument, the only place in the United States where four states meet. Apparently, those who have visited it have found it overpriced and underwhelming.  It was #1 on tourist traps and #19 on overrated attractions.

Here’s how USA Today came up with the lists: 

In July 2023, we analyzed 23.2 million Google reviews of the 500 most popular tourist attractions in the world, spanning 65 countries in six continents. For each attraction, we asked a simple question: How frequently do the reviews mention the terms “tourist trap,” “overrated” or “expensive”? 

This review from Zuzana G describes what they were analyzing:

I actually visited this location when I was younger. The idea of standing where I could be in four states at the same time fascinated me. When we finished driving down that hot highway and I stood on the circle with four lines heading away from it, I remember thinking, “This wasn’t as great as I thought it would be.” I can’t remember anything else about it. 

To be fair, there were those who really enjoyed their experience and left five-star reviews. They found the experience well worth the trip and would recommend it to others. 

To get on this dubious list is pretty impressive in itself. It was competing with the likes of Graceland in Memphis, the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, and the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. It’s not easy to be overrated, but the Four Corners Monument got it done. An example to all of us, congratulations.
