Grand Junction’s Redlands Roundabout Getting the Art Treatment
Grand Junction's newest roundabout is about to get a brand new face.
Do you remember when the announcement was made that Grand Junction was getting a new roundabout at the intersection of Redlands Parkway and Broadway? There was quite an uproar from people who regularly use that route who thought the roundabout was a bad idea. Although I rarely travel that road, I have to count myself among those who had bad feelings about the addition.
Here we are, one year later, and guess what? The world did not come to an end. The sun did not fail to rise the next day. Life as we knew it before the roundabout continued just as it was after the roundabout completed. Not only that, having seen the finished product and the way traffic flows at this intersection, I have completely flipped my perspective and now I'm a full-fledged supporter and believer in the Redlands Parkway Roundabout. However, if you don't use it regularly, you may experience some momentary confusion.
So, while construction is completed, the project itself is not finished. Grand Junction Parks and Rec, the City of Grand Junction, and the Commission on Arts and Culture are hosting a community meeting to discuss potential art for the roundabout. They are asking for public input on conceptual design and concepts for future development of the roundabout. I have a feeling when it's all said and done this thing is going to look really cool.
Some may question the idea of spending money on art at that location. Is it needed? Does the volume of traffic through that intersection warrant the idea of putting some sort of art there?
A public meeting is scheduled for November 12 at 5:00pm in the Broadway Elementary cafeteria. Anyone interested in the project or with some ideas is welcome to attend and express your thoughts.
