Last Saturday, two men suspected of shoplifting from the Rimrock Walmart in Grand Junction, were arrested for possession of close to a pound of methamphetamine.

Grand Junction Police responded to a report of a shoplifter at the Rimrock Walmart on Saturday just before 6:00 p.m. After locating the suspect vehicle in the parking lot, they contacted the occupant, 33-year-old Joshua Arcello.

Shortly afterwards, the suspected shoplifter, 24-year-old David Schwartzenburg, returned to the Walmart and admitted to having shoplifted a cell phone.

A search of the vehicle resulted in police finding of a glass pipe with suspected meth residue. Officers also uncovered a black trash bag from the trunk containing roughly 14 ounces of meth.

Both suspects admitted they had purchased the meth in California and were heading to Iowa with plans to sell the drug.

Arcello and Schwartzenburg have been arrested and transported to the Mesa County Jail on charges of:

  • Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance
  • Importing a Controlled Substance
  • Schwartzenburg was charged with Shoplift.
