What does a beloved Grand Junction pizza restaurant have to do with actor Orlando Bloom? The same thing it has to do with Liv Tyler and the first known use of the word "sicko." This popular Grand Junction pizza joint just turned 40, and it's time to celebrate.

Two scores and a couple of days ago, Junct'n Square Pizza was born. As most any western Colorado resident will tell you, that's some good eats. Actually, their 40th birthday is coming up June 14.

You know Junct'n Square Pizza, the place with the square pizzas. When you think about it, aren't they really more rectangular than anything? Junction Rectangular Pizza really doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well, now does it.

So, what was going on in 1977? The same week Junction Square Pizza opened in Grand Junction, the New York Mets traded Tom Seaver to the Reds for Pat Zachry. The band ELO released the tune "Telephone Line", and a little show called "Beatlemania" opened on Broadway. Feel old?

These joints were up and running before the pizza craze hit Grand Junction. They squared off (pun intended) against some big boys, namely Pizza Hut and Shakey's. It would a number of years after their opening before Domino's hit this part of the country.

Of course, they're offering special deals on June 14th.

Happy birthday to you, Junct'n Square Pizza.  Grand Junction has thoroughly enjoyed your fine work these last four decades. Here's hoping you're around another 40 years.
