Perhaps you've heard of it - Goat Yoga. Before long, this latest craze will take its place alongside the hula-hoop and the Rubik's Cube. Get ready Grand Junction, it's coming your way this summer.

Seriously, Goat Yoga. What exactly is it? Well, it's pretty much just as it sounds. According to the Grand Junction Parks and Rec webpage:

Blending the relaxation and focus of yoga with the happy distraction of 12 little goats, brings together the sheer joy of the human/animal connection. This gentle yoga class, perfect for all levels, invites you to come as you are and allow yourself a unique experience. Goats are spontaneous and may snuggle on your mat, burp in your ear, and give you a hug.

Sound interesting? It should. This isn't the first Western Colorado class to include non-human life forms. Have you tried the Roice-Hurst Humane Society's fascinating "cat mediation" group on Monday mornings?

What do you need to do in order to participate in Goat Yoga? Here's a list of dos and don'ts:

Do:

  • Bring a yoga mat
  • Class fee is $20
  • Water will be provided

Don't:

  • No water bottles
  • No purses or bags
  • Keys and phones must be kept under the mat

How exactly does a Goat Yoga session unfold? Well, the class format includes a 15 minute "goat play time" before and after the one-hour Yoga class.

Who can attend? Pretty much anyone ages 12 and up. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Classes are open to men and women, and apparently, goats. As of today (June 5, 2019) there are 20 spaces still available for enrollment. Classes are $20 a pop.

Registration is already underway and will continue through August 31. Classes will be held at the Mesa County Fairgrounds gazebo at 2785 Highway 50.
