A longtime favorite sandwich shop, not just for the CSU campus but for all of Fort Collins, is quickly approaching it's grand re-opening date. With this new iteration, it will be more of the classic, with great new additions.

It's hard to explain how "cool" B&B Pickle Barrel has been since opening back in 1988. It's been not only a fun place to "grab a bite and a beer," but it's been a part of the fabric of the Choice City. The new ownership group understands this, and is ready to get back to the restaurants roots, while brining in new things.

Tens of thousands of CSU students have been through the doors of B&B Pickle Barrel, thousands more have just been fans of the joint. In the early 1990's a buddy of mine (he being a CSU student) and I would hit up Pickle Barrel often. They had great sandwiches and great beers, perfect for a summer afternoon before playing disc golf at Edora.

It was in mid-August of 2021, that a pair of new owners took over Pickle Barrel from co-founder Brenda Smith, but after just one year, they had to close the doors.

In January of 2023, it was announced that another new team of owners had come together to re-open the shop. This group is made up of proven restaurateurs, CSU alumni, and Mishawaka owner (and concert promoter) Dani Grant. This definitely sounds like the team to bring back the glory days of Pickle Barrel, while moving its brand forward.

A February press release from B&B Pickle Barrel reveals some of the changes that we'll be seeing when the sandwich shop re-opens on March 15, 2023. Not only are they renovating the inside to bring it back to "once was," but they have a few more things they are bringing.

Getting a seat on the front patio can be a challenge; a beer garden behind Pickle Barrel will be awesome.

With all the food truck events around Fort Collins every spring-summer, having a Pickle Barrel food truck makes a lot of sense. It will get them in front of a lot of people at a lot of Fort Collins community-focused events.

With the "new" Pickle Barrel having Dani Grant involved, you know they are going to be able to get some great local musicians into the joint- probably out back in that beer garden.

DID SOMEONE SAY, 'PICKLEBALL?'

Pickle Barrel, pickleball.. It's brilliant. In what way that Pickle Barrel will be involved with local pickleball isn't exactly clear, but it does sound fun.

It would seem a lot of the old favorites that Pickle Barrel was known for had disappeared from the menu with the 2021 inception. This new "old" iteration will find those fan favorites back. Bring on the "yum."
