It seems impossible that a person could watch this video and not change the way they use their cell phone while driving. The young woman in the video lost both her parents in a horrific crash caused by a distracted driver and then spent two months in the hospital fighting for her own life and two more months of rehab learning to walk and talk again.

Distracted driving isn't ONLY about texting, nor is it only about cell phones, although cell phones have become the leading cause of distracted driving.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, 22% of Colorado drivers admit to reading a text message while driving. Additionally, a whopping 64% said they had selected entertainment on their mobile device while driving, and another 33% admit to talking on a hand-held phone.

Here's why this is such a serious issue.

In 2015, there were 68 Colorado fatalities attributed to distracted driving. Between 2012 and 2015 there were more than 57,000 distracted driving crashes in Colorado, and 30% of the drivers involved were between the ages of 21 and 30.

The Colorado legislature is hoping to toughen Colorado's anti-texting laws and that is a good thing. As much of us would not want to pay a huge fine, more than that we should be in fear of losing our own life, or killing someone else, or causing traumatic life-changing injuries.

You need to watch the video -- and if you have a friend or family member that you know is a perpetual distracted driver - please share this post and video with them. It could help save someone's life.
