Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, the world has anxiously searched for ways to help the country — and the Denver Zoo is no exception.

In a Wednesday (March 23) Facebook post, the zoo announced the launch of a Wildlife Emergency Fund designed to "provide emergency assistance for the organizations, animals, and zoo staff most in need" in Ukraine.

"As we've watched in horror as this crisis has unfolded in Ukraine, our hearts go out to the Ukrainian people impacted by the Russian invasion, including our fellow zoo professionals who continue to care for animals in Ukrainian zoos under extremely dangerous and difficult conditions," read the post.

The zoo's partners, the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), have created a plan to distribute the funds, which will aid Ukrainian zoo professionals with transportation, food, evacuation and veterinary care of zoo animals, and more.

The zoo isn't the only wildlife organization showing support for Ukraine.

Earlier this month, the Boyd Lake Veterinary Center in Loveland taped a picture of Russian President Vladimir Putin to a nearby fire hydrant, inviting local dogs to "pee on Putin."
