Early on they were called the "Bronkettes." Later, they were the "Bronco Belles." Ultimately, by 1977, they were known as the "Pony Express."

Just yesterday, February 1, 2022, we shared a post "Playboy and Prostitution? The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders Scandals of the 70s." That post shared info even Colorado lifers such as myself had forgotten.

The post also included a fascinating Youtube video. This clip featured a former member of the Pony Express detailing some interesting facts about life as a Denver Broncos cheerleader.

How Much Did They Make?

The interview features a former cheerleader by the name of Pat Mansfield. At 1;18 into the video, she reveals the members of the Denver Broncos cheerleaders made a whopping $15 per game. That's what I said, $15 per game.

It's probably safe to say none of them retired off of wages like that. At the rate of $15 per game, it's no wonder a couple of former Denver cheerleaders posed for Playboy. If I were making $15, I'd pose for Playboy, too. and I'm a guy.

Recalculating for the Year 2022

Using the handy US Inflation Calculator, it was determined an item costing $15 in the year 1978 would now cost $64.14 in 2022.

I guess if one loves football, loves performing, and has a certain penchant for a life in showbiz, then maybe $15 isn't so bad. Hey, if it's what you love, that's all that matters.

According to the webpage scottfujita.com, "The average NFL cheerleader salary is $150 per game day and about $50 – $75 for a public appearance."
