The cost of upgrading the University of Colorado's athletic facilities is rising.

The Daily Camera reports that university regents approved spending $13 million to cover cost increases blamed on poor soil conditions and high labor costs on Wednesday.

The project was originally expected to cost $143 million. It includes an expansion of the Dal Ward Athletic Center, construction of an indoor practice facility and an addition to Folsom Stadium.

Construction began in May after the athletic department raised $40 million, below its initial fundraising goal.
