While most people are planning to usher in the unofficial start of summer for Memorial Day, there are those who want to give winter one last hurrah by spending the weekend skiing and snowboarding.

Strangely, there are two ski areas in the state willing to offer those people at least one last weekend until next season.

Aspen Mountain will be open May 28 through May 30 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. weather permitting. The skiing will be limited to about 120 acres on the upper part of the mountain. That means skiers will have to take the Silver Queen Gondola to the Ajax Express lift as there isn't any way to ski to the base.

Arapahoe Basin still has 60 inches of snow and is planning on staying open through Memorial Day weekend. Several lifts and runs will be open Memorial Day weekend. Hours are 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They will also have at least a few more days of skiing in early June for the truly die-hard skier, weather permitting.

Temperatures at both resorts are ideal for fair weather skiers and boarders. The snow isn't the best, but who cares when you can hit the slopes without having to pack all that winter gear.
