Colorado Rockies Fail Its Fans In 2023 Season

I'll never forget when the Colorado Rockies came to our great state in 1993. The first two seasons were held at Mile High Stadium while their new home, Coors Field, was set to open in 1995. It was an exciting time for baseball fans all over Colorado, as we finally had our very own Major League Baseball team after decades of waiting. It was like a dream come true! That dream, however, 30 years later, has turned into a nightmare.

I absolutely love going to Rockies games. My dad started taking us to games back in '93 at Mile High, and we were at one of the very first games at Coors Field too. To me, and I've been to a few, there isn't a better ballpark in the world, than Coors Field. For being 28 years old, you can't tell. Ironic since the new Mile High is 6 years newer, used far less, and is in way worse shape. Anyway, live Rockies games at Coors Field are just the best time. What would make them better is if the team showed up to play for the thousands and thousands of fans who pay to watch them play each day or night.

Colorado Rockies Set Franchise Record On September 26th, 2023

A friend of mine posted "How did the 2023 season go so wrong, for a city that deep down loves baseball so much?" What he was referring to was the Rockies' Race to 100... But not 100 wins, no. That, we'd be proud of. This was the race to 100 losses, and sadly, last night, we crossed that finish line. 100 losses is the absolute worst record our beloved Colorado Rockies have ever had in three decades. What a way to celebrate our 30th anniversary, right? Is it finally time to sell the team?

Should The Monforts Sell The Colorado Rockies?

Charlie and Dick Monfort started the Rockies Franchise in 1992 and paid about $95 million for the new franchise. In 2023, even as terrible as they've let them become, they're worth an estimated $1.48 billion. You're basically profiting a billion dollars, and releasing the heartache of Rockies fans all over the world, but specifically here in Colorado. I can count on ONE HAND how many times the Rockies have made the playoffs. That's embarrassing enough. But now to add a 100-loss season to the record books? Please, for the love of this team and all things good about baseball, sell this franchise to somebody who truly cares about this team and its extremely loyal fanbase. Three decades of mediocre to absolutely awful baseball is enough. We've had it. But here's why they won't sell...

Why Won't The Rockies Owners Sell The Team

The simple answer? The owners still make too much money... The team stinks, this year more than ever. But the average attendance at Coors Field is still over 30,000 fans. The loyalty, even during our worst season ever, is truly remarkable. People LOVE this team. They love going to games to cheer on their team while rocking their purple jerseys, hats, and other Rockies gear. The team store is always packed buying the overpriced Rockies merch. I know I stop in every time we go. If I counted the money I invested into the Rockies over the years, it would probably make me sick. But, I, like millions of others, love this team, and we want to win. The team deserves it, the state deserves it, and the FANS deserve it. But will we ever get it? Maybe not in our lifetime, sadly. Sigh... Go Rockies.
